A narrow service, on purpose.
Simonides does one job. It takes a document someone has already read and returns the things that make it stick: a brief, the terms that carry the meaning, and questions they have to answer without looking.
Today it serves one caller, the FirstRecall plugin for Obsidian. The front page sets out exactly what it does with your notes and what it keeps.
What it is not.
- A general-purpose model API. It accepts no custom prompts and exposes no model choice.
- A place for storing notes. Submitted content and results are processed transiently and are not intentionally written to the application database, analytics dataset, request logs, or AI Gateway payload logs; pseudonymous operational records and ordinary network information are handled as described in the privacy policy.
- A replacement for running a model yourself. If content must stay on your machine, run a local one.
- A finished product. It is in preview, and it can be withdrawn or changed.
Why Simonides.
Simonides of Ceos is the poet Cicero credits with the method of loci. After a banquet hall collapsed, he is said to have named the dead by recalling where each guest had been sitting.
The story is a legend and is usually treated as one. The principle it carries is not. Memory depends on structure and retrieval rather than exposure, which is why this service generates questions rather than more prose to reread.
